MISC:Cape Verde consists of 9 inhabited and several uninhabited
volcanic islands that are steep, rugged, and rocky. They enjoy a
temperate climate; warm, dry, with summer precipitation being
very erratic. The islands suffer prolonged droughts, harmattan winds,
volcanic and seismic activity. Cape Verde serves as an important
communications station and sea/air refueling site. Became independent
5 July, 1975. Member of UN since 1975.
